The Games We Played
🌿 The Games We Played, The Lessons We Keep
Do you remember the games you played as a child? Maybe it was hide-and-seek in the lanes of your neighborhood, running breathless while the evening sun dipped lower. Or maybe it was board games on lazy Sunday afternoons, when one move could make you the winner or send you back to the very beginning.
For me, it was a simple game we used to play with chalk on the ground — hopscotch. The rules were clear, the squares uneven, and yet the joy was unmatched. We didn’t need screens, we didn’t need expensive toys. All we needed was space, laughter, and the courage to play again when we stumbled.
Looking back now, I realize those games weren’t just games. They were little teachers disguised in childhood fun.
- Falling and getting back up taught us resilience.
- Waiting for our turn taught us patience.
- Playing fair reminded us of honesty and respect.
- Cheering when a friend won taught us that happiness multiplies when shared.
Life today feels like a much bigger game — with higher stakes, faster pace, and tougher challenges. But deep down, the rules are still the same. We will fall, we will rise, and sometimes we’ll even start from zero. What matters is that we keep playing.
So the next time you feel stuck or overwhelmed, think back to those childhood days. Remember how freely you laughed, how quickly you forgot a loss, and how fiercely you believed you could win the next round. That version of you is still inside — waiting to remind you that life, too, is meant to be played with courage and joy.
💫 Maybe that’s the secret to self-care: playing the game, not fearing the fall, and always beginning again.
